Missing man: complete the famous XI

Missing Man is a free cricket quiz. You see a real XI from a notable match, in batting order, with one name missing. Work out who played, in three guesses. Puzzles are numbered, with an archive, so you can play whenever you like.

How to play

  1. Read the match: the teams, the ground and the year.
  2. Study the XI in batting order and find the gap.
  3. Search for the missing player and guess; you have three.
  4. See who it was.

Scoring

100 for the first guess, 70 for the second and 40 for the third. Ask for four choices and the answer scores half.

A deduction, not a lookup

The missing man is a well-known player of recent years, and never the most capped player in that XI, so think about who fitted that side and that place in the order.
